UFC light heavyweight heavyweight champion Jon Jones made headlines by calling out Stipe Miocic today.
It didn’t take long for Miocic to respond. The record-setting former champ just issued a short-but-sweet response to Jones’ challenge:
“Been ready. See you there.”
Miocic has been out of action since his first-round knockout loss to current UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier at last year’s UFC 226. He’s campaigned for a rematch ever since. But those calls appeared to have fallen on deaf ears.
Jones, meanwhile, finally returned to action by regaining his title over Alexander Gustafsson late last year. He returned to defend the title in a one-sided decision over Anthony Smith at UFC 235 this month. Thiago Santos was tabbed as his next potential challenger.
A bout with Miocic is too much to pass up, however. It’s assumed the fight could take place at July’s UFC 239 during International Fight Week. That would be quite a headliner to one of the year’s biggest pay-per-views.
Jones moving to heavyweight has been discussed for years. He previously denied he would anytime soon, but apparently changed course recently. No one can really test him at light heavyweight as of now, so it may be the best move.
