“Is it … not UFC fighting, it’s mostly just street fighting?”
Balrog … Vega … Sagat … Muhammad?
Newly-crowned UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad is currently enjoying his victory tour after dethroning Leon Edwards at UFC 304 last July in Manchester. One of those pit stops included an interview with WGN News in his native Chicago.
Which apparently doesn’t understand what it means to compete in MMA.
‘’Chicago was epic,” Muhammad told Anik & Florian podcast. “We’ve had parades for the Bulls, the White Sox, the Cubs, and now to finally get one for myself, it was amazing. Just the family and friends there, and we had like the funniest thing. I was on WGN News, was like the biggest news network here. And then the lady goes, ’oh, you’re the champion of street fighting,’ and I was like bro, people still don’t know what the UFC is. It was hilarious.’’
Hilarious daytime news segments are not uncommon among UFC fighters.
Muhammad, 36, improved to 24-3 (1 NC) with his championship performance and is expected to make his first 170-pound title defense in early 2025. Leading the list of candidates is unbeaten welterweight menace Shavkat Rakhmonov.
