On Tuesday, the Nevada State Athletic Commission announced that Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Jardine fighter Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal had tested positive for a banned steroid following the January 7, 2012 event in Las Vegas.
Lawal tested positive for Drostanolone, a drug medical used for testosterone replacement therapy, hypogonadism, Hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, and as part of a treatments for certain cancers in women. It has been used as an anabolic steroid for bodybuilding, but is used mainly for cutting weight.
The NSAC did not announce their disciplinary action for the positive steroid test, but could levy a suspension anywhere from six months to a year for the infraction.
Lawal had earned a fairly easy second round TKO victory over Lorenz Larkin at the Strikeforce event, and was poised to regain that promotions light heavyweight title. Now with the suspension, the result of the bout has been overturned to a “No Contest” and another 205-lbs contender will have to be found for the vacant light heavyweight strap.
