Well it seems that I should rant a little more often seeing as how it gets results…
An early morning report from Tatame.com has the Strikefroce promotion looking at holding an eight man heavyweight Grand Prix tournament, which will include current champ Alistair Overeem. They also indicate that the promotion will likely hold it’s first two pay-per-view events as part of the Grand Prix tournament semi-finals and finals.
The fight between Fedor and Silva, which has been rumored on the past days, is agreed to happen in February, and other match-ups are in works. Werdum, who comes from a first-round submission victory over Fedor, will probably fight Kharitonov in March, and Barnett vs Rogers, Overeem vs Arlovski might happen as well.
The heavyweight tournament, which will happen in three events, will probably mark the first two Strikeforce pay-per-view events, at GP’s semifinals and final. Stay tuned on TATAME.com for more news on the tournament.
This would definitely be one way to settle the next heavyweight contender, or even the next Strikeforce champion by including Overeem into the tournament. Several of the Strikeforce fighters named have remained idle for awhile and are certainly itching to get back into the cage. A heavyweight Grand Prix tournament would certainly do the trick as well as create a ton of fan interest.
