Submission Underground held its eighth grappling event on Sunday in Portland, Oregon, just a day after the UFC 237 pay-per-view (PPV), which ran the same night as Bellator 221, in what proved to be a pretty busy weekend in combat sports.

Topping the card was the showdown between Jake Shields and Austin Vanderford, affectionally known as “Mr. VanZant” for … you guessed it … being married to the uber-popular UFC strawweight Paige VanZant.

Shields won by decision.

Elsewhere on the card, Jake Ellenberger was able to outlast former UFC opponent Diego Sanchez, while Gilbert Melendez overcame ex-Strikeforce compatriot, Pat Healy. In addition, Bellator heavyweight Matt Mitrione was submitted by grappling wizard Fabiano Scherner.
