Sterling pulled off a slick transition in the dying seconds of a Pit Submission Series 7 match to defeat Jay-Jay Wilson on points.
Aljamain Sterling scored a thrilling points win in overtime over Jay-Jay Wilson at Karate Combat’s Pit Submission Series 7 last night (Thurs., July 25, 2024) in Nashville.
It was a close match for “Funkmaster” despite a dominant performance. Wilson seemed content to stall UFC’s former Bantamweight champion for a decision win (dominant position). But, at the last moment in overtime, Sterling broke free of Wilson’s closed guard, hit mount, then took Wilson’s back, earning the victory.
Following the bout, Sterling hyped up an upcoming UFC 307 fight with undefeated wrestling powerhouse, Mosvar Evloev.

“Make sure you tune in October 5th, I’m whipping Mosvar Evloev’s ass,” Aljo declared. “I am taking that 0 — it’s got to go!”
“10 more weeks til I shut this fool up for all his shit talk!” he added on X (formerly Twitter), adding several backpack emojis to the tweet.
Sterling bounced back from a disappointing knockout loss to Sean O’Malley in Aug. 2023 that cost him the Bantamweight belt (watch highlights), defeating Calvin Kattar via suffocating decision (30-27 x3) decision at UFC 300.
Now, he’s looking to knock off Evloev, whose takedown spamming and top control has earned him the No. 5 spot in the UFC’s 135-pound rankings.
