UFC featherweight Cub Swanson has released a short statement after a unanimous decision loss to Frankie Edgar at UFC Atlantic City.

For the second time in as many attempts, Cub Swanson was unable to get the better of Frankie Edgar, as “The Answer” prevailed by unanimous decision in front of his home support at UFC Fight Night: Barboza vs. Lee in New Jersey.

Unlike their first fight, which saw Swanson outclassed on the ground before being submitted via neck crank, Cub stopped all of Edgar’s takedowns, but was unable to mount enough on the feet to win a single round on the scorecards. Swanson has since released a short statement on his Instagram page, both congratulating Edgar on the win and reassuring his fans that he’ll be a better fighter next time out.

“Well not the outcome I was looking for but that’s the fight game,” Swanson said. “Congrats Frankie & I’m sorry to hear about your father. To all my supporters, ‘Thank you so much and I promise to come back stronger!’”

Swanson is referring to the recent passing of Edgar’s father, which came shortly after the death of Edgar’s grandfather.

Having re-signed with the UFC earlier this year, Swanson (25-9) will look to avoid the first three-fight losing streak of his career when he makes his next appearance inside the Octagon. His last four losses have been to Edgar (former lightweight champion), Max Holloway (current featherweight champion), and Brian Ortega (#1 contender slated to fight Holloway next), so until proven otherwise, only the absolute elite of the division have been able to beat him.
