Despite losing a couple of high-profiled proposed matchups (see which ones here and here), the UFC 227 — which is set for Aug, 4, 2018 inside Staples Center in Los Angeles — event must go on.
The promotion announced a Featherweight matchup that will see Cub Swanson make a quick turnaround following his loss to Frankie Edgar last month at UFC ‘Atlantic City’ to face Renato Mociano.
Cub will look to rebound after back-to-back defeats with his other loss coming at the hands of current No. 1 contender Brian Ortega. As for Moicano, he has won four of five inside the Octagon and was last seen taking out Calvin Kattar at UFC 223 last month. Soon thereafter, the Brazilian bomber called for a showdown against Swanson, and the UFC matchmakers were all ears.
As it stands, Cub is currently the No. 5 ranked 145-pound fighter in the world, while Renato sits comfortable in the No. 9 slot.
UFC 227 will be headlined by a Bantamweight championship rematch between current division champion TJ Dillashaw and former champion Cody Garbrandt. To see the latest and most up-to-date fight card click here.
