Fans will once again have to wait a little longer to see T.J. Dillashaw vs. Renan Barao 2.
Dillashaw, the UFC bantamweight champion, has been forced to withdraw from his April 25 title defense against Barao due to a fractured rib. His manager, Mike Roberts, informed MMAFighting.com that Dillashaw injured his rib during wrestling practice last Friday. He’ll be sidelined for approximately six weeks.
As a result, the UFC scrapped the fight from the card, and according to a UFC president Dana White, the new UFC 186 main event will be Demetrious Johnson vs. Kyoji Horiguchi for the flyweight title.
PostMedia News first reported the injury.
Dillashaw shocked the MMA world last May when he defeated Barao to win the title at UFC 173. The pair were scheduled to rematch at UFC 177 in August, however, Barao failed to make weight the day before the fight and was ruled out. Dillashaw would go on to beat late-replacement Joe Soto in his first and only title defense.
UFC 186 is set to take place next month at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
