The Fight Club, a local mixed martial arts promotion based in Edmonton, Canada put on their latest show Friday night, TFC 12: Devastation at the Shaw Conference center in the cities downtown core.
The original card was to feature eight bouts but due to injuries and unforeseen circumstances the event only featured five bouts on the night. Fans at home were able to watch the event live at GoFightLive.tv or could have caught the show on tape delay on The Fight Network.
The night was capped off with a TFC middleweight title bout pitting Bastien Huveneers against Nick Hinchcliffe in the nights main event. Both men would battle it out for a full five rounds keeping the fight standing for practically the entire match. Hinchcliffe did a good job of avoiding Huveneers striking for the entire fight, but would come up short in the judges eyes. Huveneers would earn a split decision to claim the TFC title.
Another notable fight included middleweights Karle Knothe and local favorite Victor Valimaki who looked to return to the win column after two straight defeats at the hand of the current TFC light-heavyweight champ Martin “The Stress” Desilets. The first round was all Valimaki who looked to have everything well in hand landing crisp strikes and avoiding Knothe’s big punches. With only a few seconds left in the bout Valimaki got caught with a big overhand right from Knothe sending the home town fighter to the mat, Knothe jumped in to finish and the ref immediately waved off the fight just as the bell rang to end the round. Knothe wins by TKO at 4:59 of the first.
