It was a pretty busy weekend for mixed martial arts (MMA) last Saturday night, as Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and Bellator MMA had digital streaming options in Ft. Lauderdale and San Jose, respectively.

One of the more gruesome injuries to emerge from the caged combat was the broken jaw suffered by former Bellator MMA champion Liam McGeary at Bellator 220, who surrendered to Phil Davis in the third round of their light heavyweight affair.

Can’t say I blame him.

“The jaw cracked in the second round and the tooth went in the third,” McGeary wrote. “Soon as that arm came round and touched my jaw that was enough for me guys! That hurt like a mutha fucka and you know I can take some shit too!”

After jumping out to an 11-0 start, which culminated in his submission win over Tito Ortiz at Bellator 142, McGeary (13-4) has struggled to stay consistent, dropping four of his last six and getting finished three times in the process.

A timeline for his Bellator return has yet to be established.
