Jon Jones retained his light heavyweight title by outlasting Dominick Reyes in a closely-contested championship showdown. But instead of focusing on the technical aspects of their 205-pound affair, or any of the rest of the UFC 247 pay-per-view (PPV) action, the big talking point coming out of last Sat. night’s (Feb. 8, 2020) event was how terrible the judging was (clap-clap-clap-clap) deep in the hearrrrrrt of Texas.
Nevertheless, Jones leaves “The Lone Star State” as defending champion, as does flyweight deity Valentina Shevchenko. “Bullet” made Katlyn Chookagian look like some white belt they pulled from the crowd and that’s not a knock against “Blonde Fighter,” it’s a testament to how deadly Shevchenko has become in the 125-pound weight class. As expected, talk of moving back to bantamweight has started to heat up.
