MMA: UFC 242- Nurmagomedov vs Poirier

Per Haljestam-USA TODAY Sports

UFC 242 is officially in the books and the promotion has a new unified lightweight champion, thanks to a third-round submission win from Khabib Nurmagomedov in the pay-per-view (PPV) main event last Sat. (Sept. 7, 2019) inside The Arena on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.

Dustin Poirier goes home strapless but can now enter the “Bad Motherfucker” division, currently populated by welterweight warriors Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz, who collide in the UFC 244 headliner next month in New York City.

There wasn’t a lot to talk about outside of the UFC 244 main event. Paul Felder avenged his loss to Edson Barboza in a slam-bang brouhaha that could have gone either way (and produced the wackiest scorecard of the night).

In addition, Diego Ferreira continued his improbable run by disposing of Mairbek Taisumov.

With UFC 242 followed by Bellator 226, it’s understandable if you missed some of the top headlines from Abu Dhabi. But no worries, we have them listed below in a convenient link wrap-up that covers most, if not all of the major talking points.

Plus, we’ve also got some of the key highlights from all the lights-out finishes. If you just want the quick text updates, head over to our live results and play-by-play thread here.
