The Korean Superboy wants to become UFC’s first Asian champ and dethrone McGregor

UFC featherweight prospect Choi Doo-Ho has his sights set on Conor McGregor.

25-year-old Choi Doo-Ho, more commonly known as ‘The Korean Superboy’, could very well be the future of the UFC’s featherweight division.

Choi, who trains out Busan, South Korea, signed with MMA’s premiere promotion in 2014 and is beginning to make a name for himself. The budding prospect has beat Juan Puig, Sam Sicilia and MMA veteran Thiago Tavares, and holds a KO rate very similar to one of the UFC’s most esteemed stars – Conor McGregor.

Choi has won all of his UFC fights via TKO/KO and has finished all but two of his fifteen career wins. McGregor, the current featherweight champion who will take on lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205, has one of the highest finish rates in featherweight history and has TKO’d six of his seven UFC FW opponents.

Choi, who broke into the UFC’s top-15 earlier this year, recently spoke to South China Morning Post and says he is preparing to fight the Irishman in the near-future.

“It’s what everyone is talking about and what everyone wants to know about,” Choi said. “I want to be the UFC’s first Asian world champion and if that means I have to fight Conor McGregor, then that’s what I will have to do.”

Unlike most of McGregor’s opponents, Superboy admires ‘The Notorious’s’ work ethic and says they share a very similar philosophy.

“I will be ready if that happens, as I always am,” Choi continued. “He’s a great fighter. Like me, he is a real student of mixed martial arts.

“I think my success is more about my philosophy than just simply technique. There are many great fighters around the world but you have to study this sport as hard as a doctor studies his career. That makes the difference. You can see than in Conor McGregor, too, just as you can in me. We are different personalities, but we have the same philosophy.”

Choi will face a step-up in competition when he takes on wily veteran Cub Swanson in December. Swanson, who is currently ranked as the No. 5 featherweight in the world, is on a two-fight win streak and holds wins over the likes of Dustin Poirier and Jeremy Stephens.

Swanson vs. Choi will take place at UFC 206, the PPV set to host a light heavyweight championship rematch between Daniel Cormier and Anthony Johnson. The event takes place on December 10 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto.
