After over a year out with a knee injury, Chan Sung Jung is looking to jump back into the deep end of the 145 pound division.
Frankie Edgar proved he’s not done dominating at the top of his division in Atlantic City with a vintage performance against Cub Swanson. At the end of the fight the judges handed him the win with all three scoring the bout 30-27. He then promptly called out whoever wins the title fight between Max Holloway and Brian Ortega at UFC 226 in July.
The fight makes sense. Edgar was set to face Holloway for the title before an injury switched his opponent to Ortega. ”T-City” then gave Edgar the first KO loss of his career. But considering Frankie did the UFC a big solid by accepting the fight in the first place, the UFC probably wouldn’t be against giving him what he desires.
But if for some reason Edgar doesn’t want to wait until the end of the year, he’s got options. Like South Korean contender Chan Sung Jung, “The Korean Zombie.” Jung took to social media following Edgar’s win to call out the former champ.
”Frankie Edgar I want to fight with you!” Jung wrote, adding a whole three fist emoticons to show his sincerity.
”The Korean Zombie” exploded back into the UFC after his mandatory military duty with a first round KO of Dennis Bermudez in February of 2017. But leading up to a match with Ricardo Lamas, Jung suffered a serious knee injury that has sidelined him since then. Preliminary reports have him set to return as soon as August, although an October UFC event in South Korea is also likely.
I don’t know about you, but I think Chan Sung Jung vs. Frankie Edgar at the top of a UFC Fight Night: Seoul card sounds pretty good.
