The MMA Depressed-us Chorus | June M. Williams

Zane Simon, Connor Ruebusch, and Phil Mackenzie are back to watch the best of the worst of MMA, featuring classic fights from the UFC, PRIDE, Strikeforce, and sometimes even the WEC.

The UFC is on indefinite hold as the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic continues to cause ripples around the world. But, never fear, as long as we’ve got free time, we’ll be force feeding ourselves all the bad MMA that we can stomach.

And with things being what they are, this seemed like an ideal time to break out a new subset of classic MMA: bouts where one of the competitors was notable sick heading into the contest. We’ve got four classic fights featuring at least one fighter competing with some kind of illness, starting with Sage Northcutt and his strep throat vs. Bryan Barberena, then Chad Mendes and his flu vs. Nik Lentz, followed by Shogun Rua and his flu vs. Kazuhiro Nakamura, and wrapping all up with Chris Weidman vs. Demian Maia and his bad cold.

As always, you can follow along with all our commentary by watching each bout on Fight Pass, starting when Zane says “go.” Or, if you don’t have fight pass, but can find the fights somewhere else, you can start at the beginning of round 1 for each fight, with Connor’s signal.
