De La Hoya and Garcia are butting heads once again, with Oscar claiming Ryan never got the sign-off for his NYE fight in Japan.

Ryan Garcia wants to fight in Japan on New Year’s Eve. RIZIN FF wants him to fight in Japan on New Year’s Eve. But is there someone they forgot to ask?

On the day Garcia and NYE opponent Rukiya Anpo squared off in Los Angeles to promote their fight at RIZIN 49: Decade, Golden Boy Promotions head Oscar De La Hoya took to X (formerly Twitter) to remind everyone that Garcia is under contract with him.

“Golden Boy Promotions has exclusive rights to Ryan Garcia’s fights,” De La Hoya wrote. “The organizers of this event have acknowledged as such and have agreed in writing that our sign-off is needed for this event to occur.”

“As no such sign-off has been given, as of today there is no event with Ryan Garcia.”

Garcia vs. Anpo is being promoted in the United States by Fanmio, who were behind the Logan Paul vs. Floyd Mayweather exhibition and more recently the Nate Diaz vs. Jorge Masvidal boxing match. That event was a big success at the gate, but not so much on pay-per-view. Shortly after the show, Diaz sued Fanmio claiming they were screwing him to the tune of $9 million.

Now Fanmio may be finding itself in the crosshairs of another lawsuit if they don’t manage to reach a deal with Golden Boy … a deal we imagine won’t be very favorable considering the promotional machine is already in motion and Oscar holds a lot of leverage.

De La Hoya and Garcia also have a history of not getting along, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the deal fall apart even if there’s more than enough money to go around. Given what we’ve seen from Garcia, De La Hoya, and Fanmio in the past, we almost expect this fight to collapse in the coming days.

As for RIZIN? We’re sure they’d rather have the fight than not, but they’ve already gotten a lot of attention for their RIZIN 49: Decade New Year’s Eve show out of all Garcia’s appearances. Not having to pay him for any of it almost sounds like a steal.
