Remember that time Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier had that “off camera” exchange during an ESPN interview, during which “Bones” vowed to “literally kill” his opponent if “DC” spit in his face?

Yeah, that was awesome (so was this).

Cormier — who would be undefeated in his incredible professional mixed martial arts (MMA) career were it not for Jones — will apparently never forget those sinister words. In fact, he talks about them in his upcoming ESPN “E:60” feature (watch the trailer here), which will debut this weekend (Sun., Aug. 11, 2019) at 9 a.m. ET.

“When you tell a man you’re going to kill him, there’s no peace,” Cormier says. “It’s always going to be this. I don’t like him. We’ve never liked each other, and for anybody to tell you anything different is a lie.”

Sounds like some more malicious intent.

Jones — who actually bested Cormier twice, but had the headkick knockout win at UFC 214 overturned to a “No Contest” because he uses performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) — has recently stated that he has no interest in a third fight with “DC.” Cormier, meanwhile, would be open to a trilogy match … with a catch. And UFC President Dana White claims Jones and Cormier both want it.

Perhaps a decision will be made after Cormier makes his long-waited return to the Octagon when he fights the man he lifted the belt off, Stipe Miocic, in UFC 241’s main event, which is scheduled for Staples Center in Anaheim, Calif., on Aug. 17, 2019. Meanwhile, Jones — who has competed three times in the span of about six months — is currently sitting idle … despite a potential rematch sitting on the table.

Regardless of UFC 241’s outcome, UFC 244: “Jones vs. Cormier 3” inside Madison Square Garden on Nov. 2, 2019, sure has a nice ring to it.
