Today’s (Sat., February 23, 2019) Thiago Santos vs. Jan Blachowicz main event at UFC on ESPN+ 3 from the O2 Arena in Prague, Czech Republic, featured a potential path to a 205-pound title fight.
Both fighters came in with a streak intact. Santos had won his last three fights, including two straight at his new home of 205 pounds. He most recently demolished Jimi Manuwa in an insane slugfest at UFC 231. Blachowicz, on the other hand, came in with four straight wins including two submissions. He most recently tapped out Nikita Krylov at last fall’s UFC Moscow.
Fans in the Czech capital were expecting fireworks from these two dangerous 205-pound competitors, and they were not disappointed. Santos started a bit slow, but he ended it with a violent barrage as he often does. “Marreta” landed a combo of hooks in the third to drop the Polish fighter. Hammerfists prompted a result that was inevitable in the first place. With the brutal TKO, Santos has won three straight fights at 205 pounds since moving up last year.
