Bellator 156: “Galvao vs Dantas 2” has been booked for the Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif., on June 17. This will be the third time Bellator MMA has attempted to put this rematch together.
Bellator MMA recently announced a main event for Bellator 156 on June 17 at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif. If it all goes according to plan, the featured fight that night will be “Galvao vs. Dantas 2” for the bantamweight title.
That feeling of deja vu you’ve got right now is for good reason, as Bellator has attempted to put this fight together on two prior occasions.
After beating Joe Warren for the title, Marcos Galvao was supposed to defend the belt at Bellator 144 last October, but Eduardo Dantas withdrew due to injury and the fight was postponed.
The new date for the rematch was Feb. 26, 2016 at the Kansas Star Arena, but this time Galvao withdrew due to illness and the fight had to be rescheduled again. This provoked a profane tirade from top contender Darrion Caldwell.
Perhaps Caldwell will be pleased by today’s announcement of a long past due bantamweight title defense for Galvao. The undefeated fighter seems to have earned a title shot with his one-sided domination of the man Galvao submitted.
The last time Galvao and Dantas met their roles were reversed. Dantas was the defending champion and knocked Galvao out in the second round of their fight. For Dantas, however, any win will do so long as he gets the belt back.
“Galvao vs. Dantas 2” is the only fight announced for this card so far. Stay tuned for additional updates.
