Straight from the files of “This Did Not Age Well.”
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, tried to use the power of social media to influence his followers during the coronavirus quarantine, instructing fans to stay home and watch television.
Offenders would risk screwing up the planet.
“First time in history we can save the human race by laying in front of the TV and doing nothing,” according to a meme Jones tweeted. “Let’s not screw this up.”
Then just a few days later, “Bones” turned off the television and hit the road with a bottle of open tequila and a loaded handgun. To the surprise of no one, Albuquerque police still frown on that sort of thing and took Jones into custody.
The charges include aggravated DWI (after failing a breathalyzer test), as well as negligent use of a firearm and possession of an open container. The pound-for-pound great was released from police custody on Thursday morning.
A court date is pending.
