Israel Adesanya will look to score his first-ever title defense of his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweight title on March 7, 2020 when he takes on Yoel Romero in the main event of UFC 248 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The matchmaking was met with some criticism given the fact that Romero is coming off two straight losses to Robert Whittaker and Paulo Costa. Interestingly enough, Adesanya dethroned Whittaker at UFC 243 and was in line to defend his belt against Costa before the hulking Brazilian was sidelined with an injury.
That’s why UFC had no other choice but to go with the next best thing. Furthermore, Adesanya wanted to prove that unlike some in the division, he isn’t afraid of the boogeyman.
The co-headlining act will see women’s Strawweight champion, Weili Zhang, take on former division queen, Joanna Jedrzejczyk, while Sean O’Malley takes on Jose Quinonez in main card action.
