According to ESPN, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is in the process of locking down a highly-intriguing Welterweight scrap between Stephen Thompson and Geoff Neal, which would go down at an upcoming Fight Night event on Dec. 19, 2020 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Thompson has been on the sidelines for over a year now, as he was last seen defeating Vicente Luque at UFC 244 on Nov. 2, 2019, snapping hos two-fight losing streak in the process. “Wonderboy” was in talks to face rising sensation Khamzat Chimaev in his comeback fight but nothing was ever finalized.
As for Neal, he is currently riding a seven fight win streak, which includes winning his first five fights inside the Octagon including wins over Belal Muhammad and Niko Price. “Handz of Steel” was last seen dismantling embattled Welterweight contender, Mike Perry, in the very first round at UFC 245 in 2019.
The ESPN+-streamed event is set to be headlined by another Welterweight showdown between Khamzat Chimaev and Leon Edwards. The co-headlining act will see Marlon Moraes attempt to get back on track when he takes on Rob Font.
