Darren Till was ‘a little bit’ surprised by how much bigger he was than Tyron Woodley at the UFC’s 25th Anniversary press conference.
It’s no secret that Darren Till is one of, if not the, biggest welterweight fighters on the UFC roster.
The Liverpool-born talent cuts massive amounts of weight to make the 170-pound limit and has weighed in heavy in two out of six bouts under the UFC banner.
‘The Gorilla’ was several pounds overweight in his most recent outing at UFC Fight Night Liverpool and was forced to forfeit 30 percent of his purse to Stephen Thompson, who he beat via decision in the main event.
Till’s size advantage over Thompson wasn’t too noticeable in the cage, but the 25-year-old was a ‘little bit’ surprised with just how much he towered over Tyron Woodley at the UFC’s 25th Anniversary press conference in August.
Speaking to reporters ahead of his title bout with Woodley (h/t Peter Carroll of MMA Fighting), Till claims he was ‘significantly bigger’ than ‘T-Wood’ during their faceoff.
“I think, as I’ve said a few times now, I just make myself look big; I puff my chest out, I put my arms up in the air. It was that stance that made me look bigger. I was, on that day, significantly bigger than Tyron,” he said.
With that said, Till acknowledged that Woodley is a fairly ‘big guy’ himself, noting the champ’s thick physique at last month’s all-star press conference.
“I just think, with his top off, Tyron is a big guy. His chest is buff, he’s got big arms and huge legs. In the Octagon there will be a slight difference, but not massively because he is a big dude,” Till said
UFC 228: Woodley vs. Till takes place next week, September 8 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.
