Darren Till thinks Weili Zhang and Joanna Jedrzejczyk deserve a lot more money after their fight at UFC 248.
UFC middleweight contender Darren Till has given his thoughts on the title fight between Israel Adesanya and Yoel Romero at UFC 248.
Till (18-2-1) made his middleweight debut in November of last year when he defeated former interim title challenger Kelvin Gastelum by unanimous decision. The Liverpudlian’s move to 185-pounds was prompted after losing consecutive fights against Tyron Woodley and Jorge Masvidal at welterweight.
Till spoke to MMAFighting’s Eurobash about the lacklustre main event of UFC 248 in which Adesanya defended his title with a unanimous decision against Romero. He also discussed the epic five-round war in the co-main event which saw Weili Zhang best Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
“I just think it was stale,” Till said of Adesanya vs. Romero. “I don’t think people expected it. People could say my last fight was stale, which it was, but I didn’t big it up or nothing. I sort of just went in there and got the win technically and then went home all happy with my new division, middleweight. But that fight was bigged up.
“Obviously, everyone has been on about how scary Yoel is. For the past few months, I’ve been making jokes about being scared of Yoel because he’s an animal and Izzy has been in these technical wars with Gastelum.”
Till is referring to recent comments he made about not wanting to fight Romero. Addressing the co-main event, which has been touted as arguably the greatest fight in women’s MMA history, Till said both women deserve big money for their performances.
“The fight before it, Joanna and Weili Zhang, what a fight! Oh my god, I have never seen a fight like that before in my life,” Till said. “It was f—kin’ unbelievable, mate. I don’t even know what to say, it was unbelievable! Oh my god…I swear…give them two girls five million dollars each because they deserve it.”
