The UFC 248 pay-per-view (PPV) main event, which took place last Sat. night (March 7, 2020) in Las Vegas, Nevada, had most of the division Top 5 on high alert, because the outcome was set to determine how the promotion makes matches for the remainder of 2020.
As of now, it appears Israel Adesanya will defend against Paulo Costa this summer.
As for Yoel Romero, who lost a five-round decision in one of the most boring fights of the year, he’s likely to face a competitor coming off a loss, like Kelvin Gastelum. That leaves No. 5-ranked Darren Till with limited options.
As for his take on the UFC 248 headliner?
“I just think it was stale,” Till told MMA Fighting’s Eurobash podcast. “Yoel looked dead heavy, he didn’t look as explosive. Izzy was sort of running away and stuff like that, but can always give them [a break] for one fight, you give them a bypass. That’s it really, there’s not a lot to comment on because there wasn’t a lot happening.”
The fight “sucked,” according to UFC President Dana White.
One fight that didn’t suck was the UFC 248 co-main event between Weili Zhang and Joanna Jedrzejczyk. “Magnum” retained her title in a thrilling, five-round strawweight slugfest that sent both combatants to the hospital.
“Give them two girls five million dollars each,” Till said. “Because they deserve it.”
They certainly deserve a lot more than this.
