What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Unless you’re a former UFC champion and you do something stupid in plain view of the public who then go to TMZ.

But, you know.

The veteran mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter was cited for misdemeanor battery outside of a Las Vegas nightclub early Friday (Feb. 12, 2016) morning after an alleged dispute with a woman involving a cell phone.

According to ESPN.com, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed the citation, which under Nevada law can carry a maximum penalty of six months in jail and/or $1,000 fine.

According to local police, officers were summoned to The Cromwell hotel just after 1 a.m. local time by the victim, alleging Ortiz grew physical in an attempt to take her phone.

Ortiz was not placed under arrest at the time of the citation and there is no scheduled court date for the Bellator MMA light heavyweight fighter.

“The People’s Champ” was last seen losing to Liam McGeary for Bellator’s light heavyweight championship, and has designs on fighting legendary Russian can crusher Fedor Emelianenko. Which should be simple, so long as Fedor has a cell phone he needs to use.
