Thanks for all your hard work, now GTFO.
Tom Wright, UFC Executive Vice President and General Manager for Operations in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, wanted mixed martial arts (MMA) fans to say “Holy Shit!” when the promotion came to his neck of the woods.
This probably isn’t what he had in mind.
That’s because UFC did come to Ontario this week, but not to promote the UFC 206 pay-per-view (PPV) event, which takes place on Dec. 10 in Toronto (details), but rather to clean house at the organization’s corporate office.
Despite being a key figure in the international growth of UFC, Wright is no longer employed, according to MMA Fighting, effective immediately.
His departure follows that of other top executives, like Garry Cook and Marshall Zelaznik, among others, as UFC makes good on its plan to eliminate 60-80 jobs in the wake of its sale to WME | IMG.
When should the other suits start sweating? Like the tagline promised, the time is now!
