Tony Ferguson teases of a big fight in his return to the UFC.
Streaking lightweight contender Tony Ferguson has been cleared to fight in the UFC but the former interim champion won’t reveal who his next opponent is.
Posting on Twitter late Tuesday night, ‘El Cucuy’ teased fans that he was offered a big fight prior to UFC 236, asking his followers to guess who it was.
I Was Offered A Fight Last Week Before #UFC236. Guess Who? That Means I Don’t Need Additional Clearance. Bring It On – Champ Shit Only pic.twitter.com/3lW8UHjxzD

“I Was Offered A Fight Last Week Before #UFC236. Guess Who? That Means I Don’t Need Additional Clearance. Bring It On – Champ Shit Only,” Ferguson tweeted yesterday.
It’s expected that reigning UFC lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov will defend his title against newly-crowned interim titleholder Dustin Poirier, so perhaps ‘El Cucuy’ is hinting at a fight against Conor McGregor, who is currently rumored to be in negotiations with UFC president Dana White.
Ferguson, 35, hasn’t fought since his stoppage win over Anthony Pettis at UFC 229, where doctors were forced to stop the fight after Ferguson bloodied and battered ‘Showtime’ in the second round.
In Ferguson’s absence, top contender Poirier went on to beat Max Holloway this past weekend at UFC 236 to win the interim lightweight strap, and head promoter White confirmed in a post-event media scrum that ‘The Diamond’ will go on to challenge ‘The Eagle’ for the official title.
If Ferguson accepted the fight against his mystery opponent, as hinted at in the tweet, expect the UFC to make an official announcement in the coming days.
