We’ve now got another pretty excellent fight to go on the Conor McGregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov card on October 6th.
It’s been a pretty crap year for Tony Ferguson, but things are finally going to turn around for the lightweight fighter at UFC 229 on October 6th. Ferguson will return to the Octagon against fellow contender Anthony Pettis in a fight that may also serve as a back up in case something happens to main event fighters Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov. The bout was initially reported by MMA Junkie.
Ferguson has been teasing a return for over a week now, declaring himself back to training following a freak knee injury that took him out of a UFC 223 title fight with Nurmagomedov in April. Over the past few days he teased a fight at UFC 229 in Las Vegas.

Ferguson vs. Pettis is a pretty sick fight and a solid addition to a card that many have called underwhelming past the spectacular main event. But we have little doubt the UFC will strip it for parts should Khabib Nurmagomedov become a ‘pull out merchant,’ as Conor McGregor likes to call him. The Dagestani fighter has a long history of getting injured and then there was his hospitalization the day before UFC 209 over a bad weight cut.
Ferguson was the man who was supposed to stand across the cage from Khabib that time, so he knows just how possible it is for something to go wrong that requires a last second fill in. Let’s hope though for four healthy fighters and two great fights at the top of UFC 229.
