Tyson vs. Paul continues to break records

Last month (Nov. 15, 2024), Mike Tyson and Jake Paul collided on Netflix, and the fight did not live up to expectations. The YouTuber-turned-boxer won a dominant unanimous decision over the 58-year-old boxing legend.

While the boxing match sucked, 108 million people tuned in to the trainwreck, making it the “most streamed sporting event in history,” according to a Netflix press release.

Well, another insane statistic can be added to the historic boxing match. According to Google, “the fight between Tyson and Paul on November 15 was the top trending sporting event of the year.”

Google then went on to list some of the questions people were asking, such as “How many people are watching Tyson vs. Paul?” “Why does Mike Tyson bite his glove?” and “How did Jake Paul get famous?”

Now, obviously, the top trending sporting event does not equate to the most viewed sporting event. Paul vs. Tyson was not watched more than the Super Bowl in Feb. 2024. (Super Bowl LVIII garnered 123.4 million average viewers across all platforms.) Also, the 2024 Olympics had more viewers than the boxing match.

Nevertheless, even being compared to the Super Bowl is a massive win for Netflix and Co.

Can they do it again?
