Travis Browne vs. Brendan Schaub slated for UFC 181

A heavyweight contest pitting Travis Browne against Brendan Schaub has been slated for UFC 181. The match-up was first reported by FOX Sports on Tuesday and subsequently confirmed by UFC officials.

Browne (16-2-1), the UFC’s number-three ranked contender, most recently dropped a unanimous decision to Fabricio Werdum in a bout that would decide the next challenger to Cain Velasquez’s belt.

The 32-year-old broke his hand, rib and nose in the contest, which snapped an otherwise impressive streak of three consecutive first-round knockout wins over Gabriel Gonzaga, Alistair Overeem, and Josh Barnett.

Schaub (10-4), meanwhile, lost a controversial but listless split decision to former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski in his most recent outing. Prior to the setback, the 31-year-old TUF 10 product had racked up back-to-back victories over Lavar Johnson and Matt Mitrione.

UFC 181 is scheduled to take place December 6, 2014 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
