Former TUF 10 heavyweight Jon Madsen (7-1) has reportedly signed with the Bellator Fighting Championship promotion and is expected to compete in the next heavyweight tournament.
News of the signing was reported by MMAjunkie.com who learned of the news from Fiore MMA, Madsen’s management company.
Currently Bellator does not have a heavyweight tournament planned for it’s upcoming sixth season but does have one planned for later this year.
Madsen was released from the UFC this past March after suffering the only loss of his career versus Mike Russow at the UFN 24 event. Madsen suffered a second round TKO loss to the Chicago cop. Previous to that, Madsen had won seven straight including four in the UFC.
He was heavily criticized for his wrestling style of fighting which may have helped his exit from the UFC.
He may find some success in Bellator as the recent fifth season saw few strong wrestlers in the mix.
