Tweet of the day: Ben Rothwell isn’t a former football player, despite what EA UFC 2 says

UFC heavyweight Ben Rothwell has beaten a pair of former football players inside the Octagon, but despite what EA UFC 2 says, Rothwell himself isn’t an ex-football player.

UFC heavyweight contender Ben Rothwell is just two weeks away from a hugely important main event against former champion Junior dos Santos. Rothwell is currently on a four-fight winning streak, which includes a shocking submission win over Josh Barnett, as well as a 1st round KO over Alistair Overeem.

Rothwell is one of more than 250 fighters on the roster of EA Sports UFC 2, which was released to all markets as of mid-March. The authentic presentation featured in the video game includes the “three factoids graphic”, where you’ll find info such as BJJ belt color, kickboxing accolades, win percentage in x amount of fights, etc. For example, did you know that Rothwell was actually a former football player?

Impressive stuff! So that means Rothwell, former football player, holds wins over fellow ex-gridiron talents Brendan Schaub and Matt Mitrione! This is definitely news to me, and it’s definitely news to “Big” Ben Rothwell.

Hey @EASPORTSUFC I was not a former football player….

Oops.

Late last week, EA Sports UFC issued an apology to lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov, after the Muslim fighter criticized the game for having him make a sign of the cross as a post-fight celebration.

This Rothwell error is of a decidedly different nature, although similarly named “Big” Ben Roethlisberger IS an actual, active NFL quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, so maybe that’s where the confusion stems from. (I kid I kid … I think?)
