Tweet of the Day: Jon Jones trashes Cormier over referee complaint

The former light heavyweight champion scolds Daniel Cormier for requesting a referee change at UFC 197.

Earlier today, it was reported that UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier filed a complaint to the Nevada State Athletic Commission over veteran referee Herb Dean.

“DC”, who lost to Jon Jones in a LHW title fight at UFC 182, complained that Dean allowed “Bones” to stall the action in the Octagon and would like to see another referee officate the upcoming rematch at UFC 197.

Jones used the complaint as a perfect opportunity to ridicule his rival on Twitter.

Excuse of the weak: it’s not that I wasn’t man enough to get my back off the cage, Herb Dean allowed him to do it

— Jon Bones Jones (@JonnyBones) March 24, 2016

The former Olympian went the distance with Jones but lost in a fairly one-sided unanimous decision. Most fans were in agreement with Jones’ victory and there was no controversy surrounding the bout.

It marked Jones’ 8th consecutive title defense, but the Jackson-Wink fighter was stripped of the belt after his involvement in a hit-and-run incident last year. Cormier went on to seize the vacant championship by submitting Anthony Johnson at UFC 187 and cemented himself as a top 10 pound-for-pound fighter when he defended the title against Alexander Gustafsson in October.

The two light heavyweights will look to settle the score at UFC 197 on April 23rd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
