I know you’re supposed to use words like “allegedly” and “reportedly” in cases that have yet to be processed by the courts, but Uber driver Jefferson Roger Maciel Barata has already confessed to running down former UFC fighter Rodrigo de Lima.
That’s according to a report from MMA Fighting.
”I’ve asked God and his family for forgiveness,” Barata said (via UOL). “It wasn’t my goal to take anyone’s life. I’ve never done anything bad to anyone. Today was going to be my wedding. I was going to start a new life, and this happened. I’ll pay for what I’ve done, and I regret it deeply. I ask his family and friends for forgiveness.”
De Lima was a passenger alongside UFC welterweight Michel Prazeres and according to Barata, got physical during their ride after being asked to settle down. Barata then claims he returned with his car to scare “Monstro” before inadvertently killing him.
The police are expected to charge him with murder.
