CALGARY – It was a tale of two fights. But in the end, the real story was Matthew Riddle taking advantage of being in the right place at the right time.
When Chris Clements threw a spinning back elbow that missed, Riddle caught his right arm, locked it up and spun him around for a standing arm-triangle choke. Once secured, Riddle executed a perfect trip takedown, keeping the choke all the way, and Clements had to tap in the third round of a back-and-forth fight.
The welterweight bout opened up the main card of Saturday’s UFC 149 event at Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary. It aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FX and Facebook.
