Cub Swanson wanted this fight against Dennis Siver to prove he was worthy of the division’s top contender spot. Point proved.

Swanson continued his torrid knockout pace, finishing Siver at 2:24 of round three.

The finish came with a flourish. As Siver began to fade, Swanson zeroed in on his target, landing at will from distance before flooring Siver with a right behind the ear. Swanson followed with a barrage on the ground, and ref Herb Dean gave Siver every chance to defend himself but finally had to call a halt to the action after a prolonged beating. Siver looked upset at Dean for letting it go on as long as it did.

Afterward, Swanson said he would like a featherweight title shot if the fans felt he was the best man for the job.

Swanson began taking over in the second round. With about two minutes left, he caught Siver with an uppercut, and then as Siver clinched, Swanson used a throw to earn full mount and dominated most of the rest of the round.

The first round was relatively even until Swanson tried a spinning back kick and Siver caught it and used it to take him down. That allowed Siver to use his size advantage and he was able to land short punches and elbows for the majority of the round.

Swanson’s win gave him five straight, including four knockouts. He’s now 20-5.

Siver’s two-fight win streak went by the wayside, and he’s now 21-9.
