LAS VEGAS — Friday’s UFC 170 weigh-ins went off without a hitch, as all 22 fighters hit their marks for Saturday night’s event at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.
This, of course, included both main eventers, UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey (8-0) and challenger Sara McMann (7-0). Both fighters hit the 135-pound title-fight limit on the nose.
“It’s an amazing, historic thing for the UFC,” Rousey said of the first title fight between two Olympic medalists. “It’s not two guys fighting at a bar, it’s two Olympic champions going at it and it’s huge for everyone.”
Rousey and McMann went nose-to-nose for their staredown, with neither fighter flinching. The two shook hands afterwards.
“This will be one of the best fights the UFC has ever had,” McMann said.
The co-main event weigh ins went-off also went smoothly. Daniel Cormier, cutting down to light heavyweight for the first time in his MMA career, checked in at 205 pounds, as did his opponent, Patrick Cummins. Unlike at Thursday’s press conference, in which Cormier (13-0) shoved Cummins (4-0), there were no extracurriculars this time around, just an intense staredown.
