This is the UFC 172 live blog for Jon Jones vs. Glover Teixeira, a light heavyweight bout at Saturday night’s UFC event at the Baltimore Arena in Baltimore, Md.
Jones, who has won 10 straight fights, will face Teixeira, who has won 20 straight fights, in the main event.

Round 1: It’s time. Dan Miragliotta is the man overseeing this light heavyweight title fight. He instructs the fighters, and they opt to touch gloves. Here we go. Body kick right off the bat from Jones, and a big right from Teixeira. They are swinging early. Another good exchange, and Teixeira tucks an uppercut in there, but gets kicked again. Now a spinning Jones strike as he goes for takedown. Can’t get it, and back to center. Jones roughing him along cage, and they have quick inside exchange, but nothing there. Back at center, body kick from Teixeira. USA chant going on. Left hand from Jones, and an oblique kick. Comes in with a swooping uppercut, but misses Teixeira. Good jab from Jones, who looks poised. Teixeira some overhand rights, two in a row, but neither land, and Jones with quick counter. Teixeira is throwing leather. Two short oblique kicks from Jones, and Teixeira pressed on. A kick by Teixeira, and Jones catches it and drives him backwards to the canvas. He comes down with him, and tries to get rolling there, but can’t, and Teixeira is back up. Clinch by Teixeira off a jab from Jones, and he again tucks an uppercut in. Spinning kick to Teixeira’s body from Jones, and the crowd roars. Teixeira not hurt, though. Both men swing and duck out of the way. Jones flirts with an ax kick at the end, but doesn’t go through. Teixeira catches his leg and tries to drive him to the ground, but can’t do it as the round ends. MMA Fighting scores R1 for Jones, 10-9
Round 2: Teixeira moves in with a volley, and Jones tries for takedown. Teixeira sprawls brilliantly, and Jones can’t get it done. Back to center. Teixeira is smiling. Jones holding his left hand out and drives the right down Main as jab, now another. Teixeira comes over top, but Jones easily ducks out of the way. Another ax kick, this one quicker from Jones, but it misses. Jones does another oblique kick, and momentarily tries to drag Teixeira down, can’t, and looks like we got an eyepoke. Quick break for Teixeira to recover, and we’re back at it immediately. Teixeira comes in and lands a good shot, then another. They are on fence, and he drops a left home. Jones takes all the punches, and it gets a little dicey, but he straightens and fires back and now he’s on the offensive. To the middle. They clinch and Jones drops two big elbows into Teixeira’s face. Teixeira takes them and is fine. Oblique kick. Spinning kick to Teixeira’s body, and it hits flush, and it might have hurt the Brazilian. They tie up on fence, and that might have given Teixeira time to recover. Now he’s coming forward again, and Teixeira tries for single-leg at the end. Nothing doing. Good toughness from Teixeira in that round, but Jones again. Round 3: Overhand right from Teixeira, and they trade. Big body kick from Jones and that hit the hollow of Teixeira’s gut, then another from inside. Still, as they break, Teixeira stalks in throwing punches. He clips Jones with a right, but Jones answers with an elbow. Big uppercut from Jones knocks Teixeira’s mouthpiece out, adn Teixeira able to catch it. Wow. Jones ties up Teixeira on the fence, and again gets raked with an elbow, but this time he lands a solid uppercut inside that slows Jones down. They comes to other side of the cage and do it again. Jones pressing Teixeira on cage, and frees up to land short elbow, then a punch. Teixeira is bleeding. Several more elbows from Jones, who is pushing here. Teixeira still firing gamely. Jones just the more prolific striker. As they come apart, Jones with lightning fast combination, both shots land. Teixeira bleeding badly now from eye. Big body kick from Jones as they circle back into fence, and they engage there in a solid bit if dirty boxing. Uppercuts and elbows from both guys. Still Teixeira is taking the worst of it. Teixeira though lands a couple of nice uppercuts as the bell ends. MMA Fighting scores R3 for Jones, 10-9 (30-27 overall)
Round 4: Championship rounds, and crowd lets out a roar. Jones with a side kick to Teixeira’s body. Jones continuing to use his left hand as a shield to Teixeira’s forehead as he snaps off the jab. Right back to the fence, as Jones pushes Teixeira there. They exchange again in close, and Teixeira tries for takedown. Can’t get it, and back to fence. They trade there then separate. To the middle. They trade again, and once again Teixeira’s mouthpiece comes out and they halt action for a second to rinse it off. Back at it. Teixeira pursuing Jones, who now has some swelling over his own eye. Jones snaps off a quick low kick. Big gash on Teixeira’s head, visible from press row. Jones continues to smoke screen with the long left and drops in a big uppercut. it lands. Same thing. Uppercut lands again. Now back to fence, great pace by both fighters. Both want it. Big gruesome sounding elbow from Jones lands, and Teixeira is getting ripped apart with those. They roll to the other side of cage, and Jones comes in with uppercut and another elbow. Teixeira is just getting brutalized on the inside. At the end of the round Jones with a takedown and into ground and pound. Only able to land a couple before round ends. MMA Fighting scores R4 for Jones, 10-9 (40-36 overall)
Round 5: Miragliotta brings fighters to center, and they touch gloves. Jones cavorts the crowd. They get at it, and Jones with quick takedown, but Teixeira back up. To the fence, furious action. No relent in Jones, who is dominant. He leans his shoulder into Teixeira, and grabs his wrist down by the knee. Jones landing knees to the back of Teixeira’s thighs as he tries to set up more elbows. Teixeira comes in and lands an uppercut of his own. Jones moves in on him again, and they have a huge exchange, both guys swinging in a gunfight! But right then Teixeira’s mouthpiece comes out again and they halt action for a second. Wow. Crowd boos. Right back to it, and Teixeira with a good left. Plenty of zip behind both guy’s punches still. Jones Moves in with elbow, and misses, but then catches Teixeira on the fence with one, Huge uppercut inside from Teixeira lands! But Jones eats it and presses him on cage. Jones with a backwards elbow, which he’s tried a couple of times, but it misses. Teixeira caught him again, and might have hurt Jones a little bit. But they peel back out to center. Jones checks the clock. He goes low with a punch to leg. They clinch and Jones looks a little tired as Teixeira lands a big uppercut. Jones again glances at clock. Dangerous terrain here for Jones, who is eating shots. Kick from Teixeira lands. They circle. Spinning backfist from Jones misses, and Teixeira pushed in. Jones wheels away. Jones looks like he wants to avoid anything further, lifts his arms as Teixeira comes in for one last punch. Jones instead delivers a parting shot down the pipe.
