New UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw claimed a $36,000 purse for his stunning title-winning performance over Renan Barao at UFC 173, according to information released to MMAFighting.com by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
In one of the biggest championship upsets since Matt Serra dethroned Georges St-Pierre at UFC 69, eight-to-one underdog Dillashaw dominated Renan Barao from pillar to post before finishing the Brazilian via fifth-round TKO to seize the UFC bantamweight strap in the night’s main event. Barao, who fell short for the first time since his 2005 pro debut, earned $74,000 in the losing effort.
Elsewhere on the pay-per-view card, victorious contenders Robbie Lawler and Daniel Cormier led the night’s total payroll, pocketing $200,000 and $170,000 respectively for third-round finishes over Jake Ellenberger ($68,000) and Dan Henderson ($100,000).
UFC 173 took place May 24, 2014 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV. As always, the entire UFC 173 payroll can be seen below, although these figures do not represent a fighter’s total earnings, as sponsorship money and discretionary post-fight bonuses are not publicly disclosed.
Additionally, Dillashaw (x2), Barao and Mitch Clarke earned $50,000 post-fight bonuses for their work.
