UFC 179 set for Rio de Janeiro in October

UFC has two more trips planned to Brazil in 2014.

The promotion will hold a Fight Night card at Nilson Nelson gymnasium in Brasilia, capital of Brazil, on Sept. 13. A month later, on Oct. 25, Rio de Janeiro hosts UFC 179 pay-per-view card at Maracanazinho gymnasium.

Sources close to the situation confirmed the dates and location to MMAFighting.com. Tatame first reported the UFC 179 news.

The capacity of the Nilson Nelson gymnasium is 16,600 spectators, and Maracanazinho gymnasium’s is up to 13,000 fans.

UFC’s last trip to Brazil was in Aug. 2013 for a pay-per-view card headlined by Jose Aldo vs. Chang Sung Jung. September’s UFC Fight Night card will be the Octagon’s first trip to Brasilia.

The next UFC card in Brazil takes place at the Ibirapuera gymnasium in Sao Paulo for The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 3 Finale headlined by Fabio Maldonado vs. Stipe Miocic.
