LAS VEGAS — Sporting a less-than-chiseled physique, Shawn Jordan was mocked on Twitter before and during his heavyweight fight with the debuting Jared Cannonier on Saturday night at UFC 182.
The Jackson’s MMA fighter didn’t take too long to let everyone know what he thought of his haters. Jordan earned a swift and vicious finish, scoring the knockout at 2:57 of the first round at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
“All we can do is improve, if we don’t we’re left behind,” said Jordan (17-6). “I just keep moving forward and learning new skills.”
The telling blow was a clean right hand, which floored Cannonier. A series of big left hands forced referee John McCarthy to step in and wave off the fight. Jordan punctuated things by doing a backflip.
“It’s something we practiced a little bit,” Jordan said. “He was moving, it was hard to time.”
Jordan won his second straight fight and his 15th career finish.
