It didn’t take long for the picture to become clear in the welterweight fight between Alan Jouban and Richard Walsh: The fight was quickly turning into a Muay Thai war.

But that’s when Jouban turned on the afterburners. The Black House fighter picked up the pace and put away the Sydney native in short order on Saturday night at UFC 184. The Los Angeles-based Jouban scored the TKO win at Staples Center in just 2:19.

“He’s a game opponent, and physically he was very strong,” Jouban said. “His team had him prepared well.”

Jouban (11-3) and Walsh (8-3) peppered each other with brutal body kicks in the early going. But Jouban closed the distance and and rocked Walsh with a perfectly placed standing elbow to the temple. A big right hand to the jaw dropped Walsh. While Walsh got up, he was clearly out on his feet, and ref John McCarthy was right to wave things off.

“With me, it was just finding my rhythm,” said Jouban, who is 2-1 in the UFC. “But once I found it, I was on autopilot from there.”
