John Makdessi won’t be the only one sidelined for an extended length of time due to injuries suffered this past weekend. In addition to Makdessi, five other fighters received substantial medical suspensions in the aftermath of UFC 187, including championship headliners Daniel Cormier and Vitor Belfort, plus ‘Fight of the Night’ winners Andrei Arlovski and Travis Browne, according to information released to MMAFighting.com by the Nevada Athletic Commission.
UFC 187 took place May 23 in the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV. Cormier submitted Anthony Johnson to claim the vacant UFC light heavyweight title in the night’s featured bout, while Chris Weidman finished Belfort inside the first round to defend his middleweight title in the co-main event.
Cormier (follow-up MRI), Belfort (right shoulder), Makdessi (broken jaw), Arlovski (left shoulder) and Browne (nasal fracture) will all be required to seek medical clearance for various injuries or be withheld from competition until November.
Nina Ansaroff, whose fight with Rose Namajunas was cancelled the day of the event due to flu-like symptoms, will also be required to seek medical clearance or be held out until Nov. 20.
