Conor McGregor is a pretty good trash talker. In fact, some say he may have copied wrote the book on it.
But, as good as his gums flap, some people aren’t too fond of the extracurricular verbal activities; specifically, his future opponents.
As Rafael dos Anjos witnessed first hand (see it), “Notorious” isn’t one to bite his tongue. And now, he’s going one step further, as the Irishman attended a recent press conference dressed as perhaps the most notorious drug lord ever, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman.
And once the mic was handed to him, all hell broke loose, as he proceeded to bury dos Anjos under an avalanche of words aimed at his family, nationality and much, much more. As “RDA” recently told a field of reporters (via MMA Fighting), when you add it all together, McGregor simply crosses the line.
“He crosses the line all the time. He answered questions the media asked me, talked about my kids, said I’m not a Brazilian. Man, all the time. He said I’m sloppy. He crosses the line all the time. He’s here to confuse everyone, give the sport a bad image. He thinks it’s nice to dress up like a drug dealer. I don’t think that’s a nice way to promote a fight. That doesn’t add anything to the sport. Georges St-Pierre always sold well as a champion doing exactly the opposite.”
That verbal warfare has proven to be a great tactic for McGregor, as many believe it may have attributed to his 13-second knockout of Jose Aldo at UFC 194, as “Scarface” may have let his emotions get the best of him.
That said, dos Anjos admits McGregor is in head. But, it’s nothing new, as the 155-pound king says that’s the norm, as he thinks about all of his opponents non-stop in the lead up to a fight against them.
“Every opponent gets inside my head because I think about them for three of four months. He’s in my head just like every other opponent before. I wake up thinking about him, I go to the gym thinking about him. That’s how he’s in my head. Nate Diaz pushed me at the weigh-in, but I fight even better when my opponents make it personal. I will dominate him.”
Perhaps what upsets his opponents and critics even more, is that McGregor — at least up until now — has talked the talk and walked the walk.
Dos Anjos will get the chance shut him up once and for all, when the two go toe-to-toe for his 155-pound strap in the main event of UFC 196 on March 5, 2015, from inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
