All four of the FS1 prelims fights on the UFC 197 card went to decision. Check out the results below.
The four UFC 197 preliminary bouts that aired on FS1 were a bit underwhelming, despite some strong action in a few. All four went to decision, and only one of them was really competitive. Check out the results below.
Sergio Pettis defeated Chris Kelades by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
Both men fought hard, but Pettis was in control most of the time. Sergio worked a strong striking game, connecting with a few head kicks and strong punches, while mixing in a bunch of takedowns. Kelades didn’t have much from underneath, but he did a decent job on the feet. Nonetheless, the fight was a bit underwhelming and Pettis got the victory.
Danny Roberts defeated Dominique Steele by unamimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
These guys earned their paychecks, going three hard rounds and using up all the energy they had. Steele dropped Roberts very early and slammed his way out of a triangle attempt. From there he controlled position for a while. Roberts eventually got up and landed some hard shots. The second was contested at range, with both men racking up points. The third was a clinch battle between two tired fighters, and it was pretty even once again. The scorecards leaned towards Roberts when all was said and done.
Carla Esparza defeated Juliana Lima by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
You shouldn’t be sorry that you missed this one. Esparza worked the takedown game in all three rounds, as expected, and grinded Lima out for the unanimous decision win. Lima fought well from the bottom in the first and got a sweep late in the third, but not much else happened other than that. It was Esparza’s first fight since she lost the strawweight title to Joanna Jedrzejczyk last June.
James Vick defeated Glaico Franca by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)
This was a tale of two fights. Franca looked excellent early, tagging Vick with big shots and getting two solid takedowns. But Vick landed an eyepoke that the referee didn’t see, and it changed the entire fight. Vick took over the striking from there, and while Franca had his moments, he was a step behind and it was obvious. Vick landed a bunch of shots over the final two round to get the unanimous decision victory.
