Plus: Open workout footage of Fabricio Werdum, Stipe Miocic and Cyborg in the fourth episode of UFC 198 Embedded.
Classical music, a guy wrapped in white cloth gasping for air while he is sitting cross-legged in the middle of a room, surrounded by other people that watch him — what sounds like some crazy kind of séance is the odd weight-cutting ritual by UFC veteran Vitor Belfort. This was detailed in the latest episode of UFC 198 Embedded, which you can watch above.
“The first step was to make a metabolic acceleration by doing breathing exercises,” Belfort’s karate coach Vinicio Anthony explained the strange procedure. “He keeps himself well oxygenated as his body temperature rises, which helps him to lose weight. We wrapped him with many towels to help his body not to lose the heat generated through breathing. So he starts sweating and loses water weight. It helps with the weight loss.”
Belfort faces Ronaldo Souza at UFC 198, which takes place this Saturday in Curitiba, Brazil, and is headlined by a heavyweight title fight between Fabricio Werdum and Stipe Miocic.
