Watch the second episode of the UFC 200 Promotional Tour Embedded.
On the latest episode of UFC Embedded, interim light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones reflects on the last 12 months of his life while he is on his way to the set of Good Morning America to promote UFC 200. Jones got stripped of the 205-pound belt and suspended indefinitely in April of last year, after he fled the scene of a car crash that involved a pregnant woman. He has been reinstated in October.
“One year ago, I have gotten in a car accident and I thought my life was completely over,” Jones reminisces. “I’ve been fighting to get back to where I am now. I’d never thought I’d make it this far again, fighting at UFC 200, Good Morning America, getting my life back together… So no matter how you let yourself down in life, you can always come back if you’re willing to put your nose in the dirt and just do the work.”
Jones will now headline UFC 200 in a light-heavyweight unification grudge match against Daniel Cormier. Both men have met before at UFC 183 in January of last year, when Jones scored a dominant unanimous decision victory. Ever since, both men have publicly waged a war of words.
A rematch was originally scheduled for UFC 197, until Cormier had to pull out with an injury. Jones faced, and beat, Ovince Saint Preux instead, in a bout which lacked the spectacular dominance that he is known for. UFC 200 takes place July 9 in the newly-built T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
