UFC 202: Teammates for Diaz, McGregor banned from promotional events

After the UFC 202 presser ended with an ugly incident in which water bottles and other items were thrown around, UFC senior vice president of public relations Dave Sholler revealed that the teammates and/or other non-licensed personnel of Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor are banned from events related to the fight (courtesy of MMA Fighting).

As previously reported, the incident stemmed from some back-and-forth banter between McGregor and Diaz which took place at a distance after Diaz unexpectedly got up and just left the presser.

This includes the open workouts as well as both of the weigh-ins, especially the ceremonial afternoon weigh-ins, which normally only allow for one licensed cornerman to be on stage with the fighters of each team.

The news was further confirmed by Ariel Helwani via Twitter:

Both Avila & Lobov confirmed that their respective entourages have been banned by the MGM. Only licensed corners allowed. UFC has confirmed.

Also of note is the possibility of repercussions regarding the altercation from the Nevada Athletic Commission, as executive director Bob Bennett states sanctions may be in place in the event of violation of commission rules. Bennett also notes that the matter is being reviewed by the commission and may be brought up for the upcoming meeting in September.

This measure will not affect Artem Lobov nor Chris Avila, who train with Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz, respectively. Given that both fighters are on UFC 202, their status remains unaffected.
